SOPHIA HOUSE: The Location


Nestled in 262 acres of woods in Louisa County, Virginia, the Sophia House setting fosters quiet serenity for all who seek respite from the pressures of contemporary living without having to travel considerable distances to get there. Louisa County is centrally located in Virginia, in the middle of the Richmond, Charlottesville and Fredricksburg triangle, so Sophia House is geographically accessible to many people: one-half of the nation's population lives within 500 miles of Louisa. There are two major airports, Byrd International Airport in Richmond, and Charlottesville-Albermarle Airport, within a short drive, and several small airports (including the Louisa County's Freeman Field) are even closer. The proximity of Sophia House to interstate highway systems facilitates travel by car from all points in Virginia, Washington, D.C., Maryland, North Carolina, and West Virginia. Sophia House is located within a two hour drive of several metropolitan areas, such as Hampton Roads, Lynchburg, Roanoke, Norfolk, Petersburg, Richmond, and Washington, D. C.

The town of Louisa, only six miles from Sophia House, provides ready access to fire and police protective services, a rescue squad and a medical center. Less than an hour to the west is the University of Virginia's excellent Medical Center at Charlottesville. Less than an hour to the east is Richmond where the Medical College of Virginia is located.

DIRECTIONS TO SOPHIA HOUSE

From Richmond or Charlottesville:

  • Take the Shannon Hill exit (exit 148) off I-64.
  • Go north on Route 605 for 4 miles.
  • Turn left on Route 646, Yanceyville Road.
  • Go 2 miles to 1782 Yanceyville Road.
  • Turn right into the driveway at the Sophia House sign.
  • Continue to the end of the gravel road.

From Fredericksburg:

  • Go west on Route 3.
  • Turn left onto Route 20.
  • Turn left onto Route 522 and proceed to Mineral.
  • From Mineral, go south on Route 522 for 2 miles.
  • Turn right on Route 605, Shannon Hill Road.
  • Go 6.5 miles to Route 646, Yanceyville Road.
  • Turn right.
  • Go 2 miles to 1782 Yanceyville Road.
  • Turn right into the driveway at the Sophia House sign.
  • Continue to the end of the gravel road.

From Louisa:

  • Go south on Route 208 for 1 mile to Route 646, Yanceyville Road.
  • Turn left and drive 5 miles to 1782 Yanceyville Road.
  • Turn left into the driveway at the Sophia House sign.
  • Continue to the end of the gravel road.
